We have finally been beaten at home in front of 20,400 fans.
After getting beaten away at Loftus Road on Tuesday, we played Sheffield Utd at home which was one of the worst performances I have seen this season.
First, the squad was weak in the first half which I was surprised at because we had our main man, Ozan Tufan, back from injury and our team captain, Lewie Coyle, back on the pitch. However, these two failed to impress as Tufan was lazy and he always went down whenever he got touched by the Sheffield players. Coyle was always giving the ball away and going backwards. Ryan Longman was another player who was always losing possession and his passes were dreadful.
Our striker, Oscar Estupinan, was very good in this game as he was always driving up the pitch and he had a good opportunity to get us level but he kicked the ball straight at the keeper. Our other striker, Benjamin Tetteh, was good for the first twenty-five minutes but he got subbed off due to an injury. We only had two chances on goal in the first half and all the possession went to Sheffield.
We went into halftime 0-1 down.
There were no changes to the team in the second half which is where things went wrong. We started to give up and we kept going backwards instead of pressurising Sheffield’s defence, which is what we did last season. In the 69th minute, we made our first two changes, one being Jean Seri, who had just come back from an injury, and the other being Tyler smith. However, this did not improve anything because in the 75th minute, Sheffield midfielder Sander Berge made it 0-2. This is where things started to ‘kick off’ in the stands as well as just on the pitch. Flares and bottles were thrown from the away end and a fan even ran on the pitch. This is not what you want from fans and Sheffield should be fined.
After going 0-2 down we made two more changes, one being our new signing, Dimitris Pelkas, and then Sean McLoughlin but it was too late and we failed to even get one goal back.
Overall, it was a bad day for city fans and I hope we can make improvements and stop starting off with the same players every game.
Our next game is Cardiff away and hopefully we can get those three points we desperately need.
